A fragrant homemade liqueur infused with lemon- or rose-scented Pelargonium (rose geranium) leaves in vodka sweetened with simple syrup; steep for at least six weeks.

Ingredients

  

  • 1 quart Pelargonium (rose geranium) leaves (loosely packed; lemon- or rose-scented types work well)
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar (for syrup)
  • ¾ cup water (for syrup)
  • 1 liter vodka

Instructions

 

  1. Place Pelargonium leaves in a 2-quart jar.
  2. Make a simple syrup by boiling sugar and water; cool to room temperature.
  3. Combine vodka with cooled syrup and pour over the leaves. Store in a dark closet for at least 6 weeks.
  4. Filter and bottle. Store in a cool, dark place; keeps for months.
