Lebanese Onion Sauce

Ingredients

  

Onion Sauce
  • 4 large onions, sliced
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons spice mixture (see below)
Spice Mixture
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoons cayenne pepper

Instructions

 

  1. Warm a heavy pan over low heat and add butter.
  2. As the butter melts, add sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, for 30–40 minutes. Keep heat low to avoid burning the butter.
  3. When onions are done, sprinkle spice mixture over onions and toss thoroughly.
  4. Serve with meatloaf; garnish with chopped tomatoes if desired. Reserve extra spice mixture in a tightly covered jar.
