
Chewy Black Licorice Chocolate Brownies
Rich brownies layered with licorice root powder, anise, and bits of soft black licorice.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ stick unsalted butter, melted (plus more for pan)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons licorice root powder
- 2 teaspoons ground anise seeds
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
- ½ cup soft black licorice chews, chopped (about 3 oz)
Instructions

Heat oven to 350°F. Line a 9-inch square pan with parchment/foil; butter the liner.

Whisk flour, cocoa, licorice powder, anise, and salt. In another bowl whisk butter with both sugars; whisk in eggs and vanilla.

Stir in dry mixture, then most of the chocolate and licorice; spread in pan. Press remaining chocolate/licorice on top.

Bake ~40 min until a tester has a few moist crumbs. Cool completely; lift out and cut into 12 rectangles.
